Infrastructure: Repair Roads, Repair Sidewalks
A great number of the roads and sidewalks in District 2 are in total disrepair with no active maintenance being performed in recent years. Along with residential roads being littered with potholes and crumbling concrete, the intersection at Manzanita and Cohasset is long overdue for reconfiguration which creates a hazard for pedestrians and drivers. These roads are heavily used by children attending the multiple schools in District 2, workers and shoppers going to the North Valley Plaza, families traveling to and from work, and students and seniors making their way to the local bus stop. Our valuable residents deserve to live in a district that is cared for and maintained. As your council member, I will fight to prioritize the repairs of our roads and sidewalks.
Lindo Channel, also referred to as Sandy Gulch runs through the heart of District 2. Despite the treatment of Lindo Channel as a neighborhood park in over one hundred years of history, it is not officially designated as a city park. Currently it is up to volunteers to maintain and clean Lindo Channel. A city report recently released (https://www.actionnewsnow.com/news/report-identifies-chico-neighborhoods-most-exposed-to-wildfire-hazards/article_1bf850e4-0789-11ed-938b-f37c83b1e050.html) The report identifies Lindo Channel as having the highest level of fire danger in the Chico. We must learn from the recent fires and maintain Lindo Channel and create a more inviting place that residents can use and enjoy. Our city budget should invest in maintaining Lindo Channel pedestrian pathways and adjacent grounds. The city needs to remove trash, hazardous debris, and clear out dead vegetation creating a “defensible space” to ensure that District 2 homes are protected from potential catastrophe. In addition, cooperation and collaboration with local Native organizations will be integral in ensuring Lindo Channel continues to provide a natural space for recreation for generations to come. As your city council member, I will fight to make Lindo Channel a designated park and a beautiful, safe space for Chico residents.
Housing - Smart Growth, Affordable Housing, Low Income Housing
District 2 is the home to some of the most affordable real estate in Chico. Our district contains HUD housing and apartment complexes, standard high density housing, low income housing for seniors, single family homes, several large mobile home parks, and the airport industrial neighborhood. There are several zoning areas that are mixed use–homes and businesses together. There are potential areas for development in the northern part of District 2 and builders should be incentivised to keep these developments affordable for buyers and renters alike. As your council member, I will fight to ensure every person is able to afford a home.
